Gengoro, who happened to pass the teacher's exam that he took to prevent slipping, ends up being transferred to Maikawa Branch School, a school of 12 students deep in the mountains of Kochi Prefecture, without much dreams or prospects. However, this village was an incredible place. The students ignore Gengoro and play around in class, and even the kappa Shibaten and the demons named Yamado appear. Gengoro is confused, but eventually he begins to sympathize with the village people's way of life in harmony with nature.
