Japan, where invisible powers, curses, spells and fortune-telling are now recognised as real. Kagome Yasuka is the young head of a family that controls the Kagome script, a language with magical powers. Tsukihiko is chosen as her 'spouse', a substitute who takes on all of Yahoka's wounds.
