Isagi, a court alchemist, uses alchemy to reform agriculture in order to save the people who are suffering from food shortages. However, he fails to gain the understanding of the government, which prioritizes military affairs, and is eventually fired. Isagi is at his wits' end, but at the invitation of Mercia, a cat beast maid, they head for a remote beastman village.
